Job Summary

The Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of Colorado Boulder is currently seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the interdisciplinary area of Biomedical Engineering with an anticipated start in Fall 2025. The position will be rostered in ME and is expected to be associated with the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Program in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Research areas of interest include those that fall within the broad scope of Biomedical Engineering. Research strengths of ME and BME include biomechanics and mechanobiology, medical devices, imaging and diagnostics, and therapeutics.

This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

The Biomedical Engineering Program has over 40 affiliated faculty from engineering and biological science fields across the CU Boulder campus and offers degrees at the BS, MS and PhD levels. The BME program has a large, diverse and enthusiastic student population. Research strengths include biomechanics and mechanobiology, medical devices, imaging and diagnostics, and therapeutics.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; develop an externally funded research program in their technical area; contribute professional leadership and service to their unit, the college, and their professional community; and cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community.
The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service.
Successful candidates will be expected to engage with teaching and service to the Biomedical Engineering program.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $110,000 - $122,000.
The full salary range for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor is $110,000-$190,000.
A relocation stipend may be available within CEAS guidelines.

What We Require

Applicants must have earned a research doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or have their degree conferred before starting a tenure-track faculty appointment.
Prior experience conducting research in biomedical engineering
Candidates being considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet University standards and unit criteria for tenure and promotion to the designated rank. These criteria generally include having an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, and a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.

What You Will Need

The ability to develop an externally funded research program that complements and strengthens the existing research in the department or enables the growth of new research directions.
Background and expertise to teach core undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering.
Knowledge of how to form effective collaborative research teams across researchers in different disciplines (i.e., mechanical, biomedical, and medical) programs, and campuses.
The ability to contribute to an inclusive climate that attracts and supports a diverse student population.
Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
